Not Just Another Social Club
WHO WE ARE
Organizational Information: The African American Heritage Club of the Plantation (AAHCP), Inc.
Mailing Address: Post Office Box 437, Okahumpka, FL 34762
AAHCP was established in August of 2009 and began as a social club. Its purpose was to promote goodwill, friendship, plan and hold social and cultural events. The club also focuses on “giving back” to the community. As club members became more involved in the community, they found a greater need to support the community through volunteerism and financial support to community outreach programs.
Three months after the club was established the members were able to make Thanksgiving and Christmas a happier time for twelve families in need. This was the first significant accomplishment of the AAHCP.
Major Initiatives: The club decided to take on two major initiatives each year. The first was a golf tournament held annually in April to raise scholarship funds for underprivileged students graduating from High School in the Central Florida area. The second initiative was a Soul Train Dance held each year on the Saturday before Labor Day. The purpose of the dance was to raise funds for Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for families in need and gifts at Christmas for needy children within the community.
Since 2010, AAHCP has provided over $16,300.00 for the purchase of approximately 165 Thanksgiving baskets and 119 Christmas baskets for families in need.
AAHCP also provided over $5,350.00 for toys and clothing for families in need during this same period.
Additional Support: AAHCP continues to make a positive impact in the community by supporting several organizations with financial assistance. For example: providing a donation to Oak Park Middle School for school supplies and presenting funds to the Forward Paths Foundation to support their youth program. As opportunities present themselves, AAHCP also supports the efforts of other African American Clubs in the surrounding area. In the last five years, AAHCP has contributed approximately $8,300.00 to support community service projects and other 501(c) (3) organizations.
Community Acknowledgements: AAHCP continues to be recognized throughout Central Florida for the work they do in community service and giving back to the community. Listed below are a few acknowledgements from several organizations:
